If I gave you a peek into my folder right now, you’d see lots of designs like this one. I’ve been working a lot on greeting card designs again lately. This one is the first concept in a set of florals.
It’s inspired by the rainy season in my zone lately and some strange dreams.
What’s your inspiration lately? Any plans when the seasons change?
It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a request from someone I know personally. This weekend a good friend of mine sent me a text that said “make me…something pleasant” and went into some short detail.
Although the request was simple, it made my heart warm to think this friend thought of me when she was going through a very rough time. So I dreamt up this image while experiencing this arctic freeze a good portion of my country is going through right now. I couldn’t help but think of the poor little creatures outside that are trying to endure these harsh conditions. They go through these blistering conditions with such grace. The thought had me pondering about nature itself and how it does much the same—with grace. Then it came to me, the beautiful swan. If ever there was a graceful being, oh you had better believe, that’s it. Yes, I think that’s something pleasant.
What is “something pleasant” to you? Do you like swans?
Have a graceful Sunday!
Fun facts: This piece is not only the first entry to the gallery of 2018, but also the first print to enter Snapping Turtle’s archive since the beginning of the merge with CardCastles. This is all part of something bigger you will begin to see this year.
Today we’re sharing something simple. When so much around me continues to be chaos, it’s a welcome break. It’s simple yet somehow intricate, because if you join this design with a duplicate of itself, you’ll notice it’s seamless.
That’s the idea. This pattern was created with clothing and/or objects in mind that need the pattern to wrap around. I’ve done many patterns like this in the past, but this is one of my first with a snow-themed design.
It was inspired by the little flurries that hit my area this weekend.
This weekend while I made a new folder for a project that’s closing and another for upcoming holiday greetings and other things. We had a little November night wind storm. Shortly after it began to rain. With the quiet in the house and the pitter-patter outside, it was the perfect conditions to work in, and some of it inspired this new addition.
Are you in planning mode yet for the new year? Do tell. You know I love a good coffee chat. 🙂
The northeast region got blasted this weekend with some icy winds making it seem like the dead of winter when it’s really still fall. We’ve got a bunch of important milestones coming up for our son in his schooling. There are some changes going on in just about every aspect of my life. They are achy changes, but changes I am willing to accept. Some of this overdose of new I’m even starting to like.
This character concept that almost didn’t happen due to a busy schedule and some technical issues, was inspired by a busted mouse. No not an actual little furry guy, don’t worry. Nope, it was a busted mouse that I very much need in order to create any illustration at all. We had to replace it in order for me to be able to keep working, even in the midst of other family obligations.
I’m going to let my son name him. I think this little mouse would be cute for holiday greetings as well. He may make more appearances.
Has anything broken on you lately? Did you make the best of it?
