31 Nightmares 2017: The 14th

This artwork was meant to be shared later on in the #31Nightmares lineup, but due to some guest cancellations, changes made, & things currently going on, I shifted some of the slots with artwork in them to make up the next few days so we could keep up with a consistent theme each week this year.

This weekend going into next week, we’ll be diving into the surreal horror art genre, and I’ll be sharing some of my own work of the sort. This technique was something inspired by Wes Craven many years ago, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I record my dreams. Then sometimes, they become art.

This piece is no different. & The funny thing is I got to speak about it before we shared this piece with one of the members of our community. The character featured is based off of a nightmare I had of being burned as a witch out in the woods somewhere. It was a freakish nightmare that came out of nowhere. & It was interesting because my ancestors are not from the United States, where they actually burned women as witches in what is now considered the New England region of the northern east coast. Not too far from where I live today as I was born & raised in New Jersey, very close to/just outside of New York.

This has been Day 14

Sleepy Sundays: Branches

These two patterned designs are part of a set of four, of which the last two are incomplete. Some gap of time has gone by since I last got to work on custom patterns or tile templates. What surprised me was just how relaxing it was after a stressful week!

What’s brought you a sense of “calm” lately?

Have a peaceful Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Unity

We had a busy week here at home and a crazier few weeks in the nation and world as a whole. Aside from my personal life, I’m managing and still enjoying extra time with my son for the summer.

Despite a positive outlook on my home and work life for now, due to the major events going on in the world you could feel tension in the air.

It all came to a halt briefly after a storm yesterday afternoon when my son shouted out,

“The sky is yellow, Mom!!”

He was so excited. Beyond elated. He rushed me to the window. We had just had a very violent thunderstorm. We’ve been getting a lot of them in my area this summer. Though this one particularly unique. Not only did the sky turn yellow after it stopped, due to the sun setting and the high humidity, but in almost a perfect dome-like shape there stood a spectacular double (almost triple, but the last one was faded) rainbow.

We ran outside in the remainder of the drizzle to snap a few photos. What we soon saw was a short moment that brought everyone out of there houses with smiles. For just a few minutes, it brought the neighborhood out. Together. Smiling. It was a warm feeling that gave us hope. Hope despite troubling times. Though it was small and in a no way a sign that all horrible things will simply fade away, it was something special, still.

I blended the photos into some digital templates like the one you see here. I plan on using them for greeting cards.

Our local news caught a gorgeous shot of this same rainbow outside of their studio as well.

What brings you together with others?

Have a peaceful Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Skyway to Summer

Skyway to Summer

This weekend our family had some much-needed time away relaxing and catching up with family. It was so renewing just to see some friendly faces and chat it up with those I love and haven’t seen in a while. If ever there was a perfect day for an outdoor gathering, this weekend managed to crank out a few.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s company , the wanderer in me couldn’t help but sneak away for a quick stroll down the block. I was dazzled by what almost summer had to offer down this quiet little street. Hues of deep pinks and oranges, and yellows, all dotted the area. Down one particular intersection, a line of trees sat that seemed to go on for days.

The whole time was like one big rejuvenation of the mind, body, and soul. There’s no doubt that my family and nature itself found its way into my designs this week because of this.

What replenishes you?

Have a peaceful Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Halls and Walls

This weekend I flashed back to a conversation had with my sister a few weeks back about our mother and how even though we have different fathers, we still have so many of the same personality traits, and quirks because of our mother.

Our mother was a fashion lover. After that conversation, the whole week things about her kept popping up in my dreams. These wall design concepts were inspired by her.

What memories seem to recur in your dreams?

Have a dreamy Sunday!
