Sundays lately have been a rest time for my family, but I still feel a draw to my work. So I’ve been working on some background sets in my spare time. This is one of those sets from a surreal series. I like the color palette for this one & may use it for another.
Greetings, my darlings. It has certainly been a while. If you’ve been curious as to where your girl Daydreams has been, please check up on my latest Daydreams Diary or you could always follow on Twitter or Instagram (links in the sidebar) for more timely updates.
This design is my first attempt back into the world of concept art. Although I’ve only been away for about a month, you’d be surprised how rusty I’ve become. Despite all that, I’m going to be hitting the ground running this month due to a recent need to make my services available to a much wider audience of clients. You will likely be seeing an expansion of Snapping Turtle happening here at CardCastles and lots of promo material.
I’m not sure yet what this design is going to be used for and it will likely be very brushed up before it hits a client’s hands. Whatever the case, I was happy to create this little surrealistic landscape after being away from the art world for what felt like aeons.
Have you missed seeing these designs here? What have you been up to while I was away? Do tell. You know I love a good coffee chat.
I know it’s not over yet. In fact, with the new year rolling in, it’s only just beginning.
I’m aware all of this may sound oh-so-very cliché. I’m not blind to the notion that some people out there are sick to death of hearing me preach the power of positive thought. (Those people can stuff it, by the way.) In spite of all that, I want you to keep going with me, through whatever trials you may be facing as well. We can’t give up and we can’t give in. BELIEVE in yourself. It’s a point I have to make. It’s important.
We’re all just getting started. 😉
Have a beautiful Sunday, my loves.
& Have a very happy New Year!
Fun facts: This artwork was inspired by elements of science fiction and recent talks buzzing around about alien life. It’s been a little while since something in the “surreal” genre was posted here at CardCastles. This Sunday changes that.
The running theme for this month among family, friends, and colleagues seems to be that our passions bring us peace of mind. We all go through our trials in life. Some days even harder than the next. Though if you’re working towards or doing something you love, a little light work makes the lights work.
—And not just the lights in the house.
*This custom piece was designed for a friend of mine who’s also a *divine* lady that’s always added a little sparkle to my day.
This custom wall art & greetings design has a neat little story behind it. Over this weekend I got to catch up with one of my old friends as we planned for future events this summer. While we yapped on and on our conversation turned into my work, then jumped to communication, then before I knew it my friend and I were talking about portals to another dimension.
We were cracking up because I actually am working on both a sci-fi and fantasy art projects for two book covers and two sets of key art, and I was designing these otherworldly places as we spoke. We joked about how it’d be great if we could just blast out of this place during our current set of circumstances. Here’s to hoping none of us have the need in the near future.
Do you ever wish you could blast away to a faraway land?
This next little design was inspired by the thought that life can come in so many infinite forms. I’ll be using it for an upcoming project.
I’m not buying into the hidden agendas of those who say we have become a nation divided. Somehow, in some cases, that warped thinking has them believing things are better that way. I’ve heard it both whispered and shouted.
Yet my groups of friends are as diverse as NY and NJ when my family first came to this country not but two generations ago. I consider my friends my extended family and I always have. We sit together, all from different backgrounds and cultures and yet we love each other, and share so much in common.
I guess what I’m trying to relay is, going into this new year, we must remember the past but we must also move forward if we want anything to change.
Otherwise, if we don’t ALL work towards loving one another then evil starts to grow.
It takes over.
Like a virus in the air spreading and spreading amidst the wind and latching on to your insides.
I know our world and humanity itself is better than that. I know there is true noble beings and real good amongst us. Some of you reading this right now are fighting for good and I am in awe of everything ahead of us. There is a brand new time on the horizon. We have a great opportunity here with this new year. Let’s put all this negativity behind us and start anew, keep an open mind, and spread love through all that we do.
During my time to work this weekend I drifted off to sleep while planning the next day’s projects. I wrote down a lovely vision I had of a waterfall in a surreal setting during the beginning of a dream had later that night. That dream later turned into one of the most terrifying nightmares I’ve had in a long, long time. When I woke up the next day, I’ve never appreciated life more.
When I sat down to try and recreate that waterfall, for the first time in a while, my hands just couldn’t find their way. Maybe the thought of that bad dream clogged my mind. Perhaps it’s due to the fact I just haven’t been physically well lately. Whatever the case, this little surreal design was like art therapy for me in the meantime and it helped more than words can express.
Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had started with exchanging ghost stories. There’s always the skeptic, the non-believer, and the “on-the-fence” person. Still, a striking amount of people I’ve come into contact with have these stories to share, whether they believe it was something otherworldly or not.
This piece is based off of a story exchanged between friends. My friend was both the skeptic and the storyteller. According to him, whatever it was at the end of his hall, had a staring contest with him for a good thirty seconds before he moved into the next room. When he returned to the hall, whatever it was had departed.
