STMND Highlights: Summer’s End

It can’t be said enough that this has been a tough year for us at Stories, and generally the ‘sphere as a whole.

Much to the contrary, there is some bright clearly showing it’s face at the end of our tunnel. A wise person once told me your art never dies, because your creation lives on in the memories and stories of others. That has certainly been somewhat of our message all along, and that point has been driven home for us this year.

I am honored to take part in all this healing place does. You have all managed to move me, so deeply, with your kindness and caring for one another. People like you, that help nurture a community like ours, help restore my faith in humanity.

Here are some notable Stories from the past few months:

STMND Highlights Reading List

We Welcomed Back Rara, and I Painted a Picture ; a difficult story from my past. Paper, Paint, and Stitches, was no easier.

Alicia returned, through the magic of technology, to share some more of her beautiful words. She also expressed her thanks for the support and love sent her way.

Rara shared something the late, great, Grayson wrote to his mother. We cried and were proud to honor his memory.

After all that, we declared a win. (#letsgoletsgoletsgo) The most powerful, rallying, battle cry (or *rawr*) for stories yet.

Some pens whispered to us courtesy of the classy, soulful, and very talented, Glorious Mettle. (STMND Art! Yay!)

Grayson reminded us through Rara that If We Could…

and today Bill is sharing with us some Love, Unwitting.

We look forward to sharing the rest of the year with you. I’ll see you there during my time slot this November, when I’ll be calling on you to share your stories again!

Lost

Join us at STMND and send some #RawrLove to one of our Stories contributors, Alicia.

Stories that Must Not Die

The following is the second submission from one of Rara’s friends on the inside. After Alicia’s initial post,a story about loss and a corresponding poem – the Stories team printed the comments that were left and mailed them to her.

Alicia responds with the following:

“Thank you so much for posting my story and poem and also sending me the comments that people sent – it touched my heart in such a deep way. I’ve never had so many people care. It means the world to me that people could relate to me and take from my strength. I’m glad that I could help.”

Lost

Alone in this dark

place, I feel so

incomplete, Lost

in this Image,

I could no longer

See, longing for

that day when

I could finally

fill complete.

Any comments you leave below will be printed and mailed to her once again. Please note…

Touched by #RawrLove

So it started with this:

and this:

and turned into this:

#RawrLove All Day Saturday on Twitter

(Go ahead, just click that link and see how many wonderful, beautiful people have kept the #RawrLove going all day (&night) long. & It’s still going!)

We at Stories, would like to thank all of you that have participated. There was a point in the day where Matticus and I were shuffling through and retweeting all of the love, and I was moved to tears. What I saw was more love than just the two of us could keep up with and it extended on, even more as I smiled.

You helped blanket the universe with just a little more love today. I have no doubt that Rara is moved as well.

There is so much more to say, but tonight I’ll just leave you with this.

We are so happy to have you back where you belong, Rara – with your friends; with your family.

Sleepy Sundays: I’ll Light a Candle for You (Part 2)

Heart Light Heart Light

This is a “card castle” in its truest form. If you’re not sure what I mean, perhaps you should read how CardCastles got its name. I purposely left this image untouched, grainy, and blurry because it reflects how I feel about all of this right now, yet it is still a striking visual that conveys the message. This will probably be one of my most somber Sleepy Sundays posts to date.

It is with much sadness and a dreadfully heavy heart, I relay this message here. A dear friend to so many of us has passed on. For those of you that know of Stories That Must Not Die, our team family there now has a hole in it. It’s a considerable space that will never be replaced. We are all still in shock and trying to make sense of it, but more importantly – another friend is in need.

I’d like to take this time out to pause from my normal storytelling and ask all of you reading that know Rara, please shower her with your love and support. Even if you don’t know her, and you’re a friend of mine – consider writing a short letter of condolence. Let her know she is loved and people are thinking about her.

I’ve aligned this remembrance today with a tribute I did for my mother in 2013 titled: I’ll Light a Candle for You

It seemed all too appropriate for this time coinciding with Mother’s Day. Like these two dedications suggest, please consider lighting a candle for Dave today as well.

This is my favorite picture of Rara and Dave. Image courtesy of The Queen Creative.

This Sleepy Sundays post is dedicated to the monumentally talented, Grayson Queen and my mom.
