There hasn’t been a piece this abstract in my folders for quite some time. Yes, I dive into the surreal quite often, but this one is different. I’m actually planning on saving this one for a client as a basis for future endeavors in the sci-fi genre.
What makes it so unique to my collections though is the inspiration. The other night I had a very strange, and wildly interesting dream. Observing my surroundings, it appeared I was in some other space and time completely. The entire experience was astounding really. I woke up in awe trying to analyze everything before life slapped me back into reality.
Maybe it’s the process of moving driving me mildly insane. Or just may-be…something else.
Patterns like this one are always a blast for me to design because I’ll collage several different designs into one. This one is made up of two different patterns of fall foliage, one that I shrunk down into tiny little golden pearl-textured dots. I’ve been working on designs like these through October, and they will likely continue through November if time allows.
This weekend’s was inspired by the winds that hit here about Friday that are signs of an upcoming storm in our area.
What colors have you seen floating through the sky lately? Do you like multi-layered designs for a living room? How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?
This year during my work with DJ Matticus & Revis Edgewater I’ve gotten a new perspective on elliptical designs and spheres of all sorts, it’s no wonder I started dreaming of black holes. Our work together on sci-fi and fantasy novels this year also ended up in this year’s #31Nightmares, as one of my concept sketches that was an early design for an upcoming fantasy novel, was also something I dreamt about, an endless void, an imploded star, a strange region in space. It was beautiful but terrifying in my nightmares.
This has been Day 20
This concludes our week diving into the surreal side of horror.
Stay tuned as we make room for our guests to arrive
I’ve had the pleasure of designing a lot of different characters this year from all different genres. None has been more fun than “The Queen” though as she’s horror-based and comes directly from, you guessed it—my nightmares.
The first sketches of her were set to be used for another project but I wound up working her into quite a few things, including this year’s 31Nightmares.
She may be pretty, but I assure you, she is a menacing figure in my dreams. Her head floats above her body. She only communicates by moving her hands, and telepathically.
I do hope you enjoy her. You may be seeing others from her realm.
Wind can come out of nowhere in October. It’s a special trick the month I was born in does. Fall likes to put on a show, and the month of October and its lovely palette are no different. This piece was inspired by the gusts of wind in my area during this time of year that often contain traveling colorful leaves.
It appears there’s been a tear through our world here. Another radio transmission has been discovered in the clouds…
I’m not sure yet if this is a positive change or a negative one. A single fact remains. We will never be the same again. I wonder if she will return?
It is my pleasure to finally introduce you to Nightmares. I promise you will see more from her in the future. This is simply her “greeting” to you all. What a proper time to finally get in touch with her as well, during our 31 Nightmares.
The above video is the story behind an old creation of mine. There was a nightmare behind this one too. Notes: I would’ve liked to have added more audio commentary but technical issues along with my schedule didn’t allow. You’ll have to settle with just my intro and the accompanying text for now.
However, I may go back and re-edit this one in the future, in tradition with the story itself.
