The seasons are changing rapidly around here but somehow this weekend winter managed to hang on. Despite the cold temps these surreal scenes of the entrance of spring managed to creep into my dreams and designs. Spring is very close around here, and you can tell by the trees. You are starting to see little bits of green pop up here and there. Soon even the cold will not be able to stop it. Everything will come into bloom. I’ve always liked the change of seasons around here for that reason, and the beginning of March around here usually signals spring. —Usually.
I am seriously debating closing down CardCastles and the larger umbrella responsible for it (Snapping Turtle) for good.
This is not for lack of trying, let me stress.
March has forever been unkind to me throughout my entire life. You may have even read that here before. I don’t have to tell you the following for privacy reasons, but I’m going to. Holding it in is making me even sicker than I already am.
My sister had her daughter (my niece) taken away from her by her ex. There’s a whole lot more to that, but that is just tier one of a set of things that are rapidly pushing me over the edge.
The tax return we were so heavily depending on (to move out of this hellhole) has been seized for student loan debt. All of it.
To top it all off, I just recently discovered my uncle who was once my legal guardian upon my grandmother’s passing, went behind my back while I was hospitalized back in 2006 and somehow illegally obtained “power of attorney” over me. What that basically translates to is I have no rights. He can sign things for me, obtain any money that comes to me. Fraudulently fill out forms in my name, etc etc. & He’ll be protected from any prosecution because, well, Power of Attorney.
Fighting any of this issues in court are near impossible for me since I am floating just above the national poverty line.
I am defeated. Depression has taken a strangle hold over me. & I am not sure if I can keep fighting anymore. The sickness I’ve been suffering from is spreading.
To keep this place standing is starting to feel like a crushing burden. I’m still undecided, but I figured I’d try to keep those of you that care in the loop. There are knots in my stomach and I can’t keep food down.
I hope this all isn’t a complete waste. I’ve worked so hard to get here.
I really love a lot of you and I’m sorry to unload all of this depressing muck on you. Pray/chant/will things for us. We will certainly need it in the months ahead.
This weekend I finally got some time to dive into some scenery designs for something I’m working on for here; CardCastles.
If you’ve been following any news about (what is now being lovingly referred to as) my “Alice cartoon”, you’ll know there’s going to be a trailer released for it soon. While I designed about ten of those sets along with new storyboards over the course of the weekend, my mind must have been overly active. The dreams mimicked my work pattern. I had the most bizarre set of them on Saturday morning. Why not turn them into some digital paintings?
This one above, titled Late Shade is one of that set. I used tropical hues and rainbow lights to bring it to life. The result is freakishly close to whatever strange place my mind traveled to.
A huge Congrats to our “Don BroJo”, we are all SO happy for you and your family. After all we’ve been through together as a group and individually, moments like this make it all worth it. 🙂
Art by Glorious Mettle Trending on CardCastles!
After going over stat reports across CardCastles and its now various hubs this morning, I realized Glorious Mettle, my dear friend’s artwork is trending! She was among the most clicked on & visited this month, along with The Erratic Sun and my Dreamscape piece.
Glori’s artwork is still blowing up CardCastles social media stats! So Congrats to my gal Glorious Mettle! I wish you many art sales & lots of love!
Behind the scenes there’s been plenty of chatter of more collaborations. This only gives me a positive attitude going into spring. I’ve got plenty more up my sleeves in the coming months.
If you haven’t heard…
It’s confirmed. I’ll be resurrecting #31Nightmaresin tribute to Wes Craven again this October.
Due to popular demand, and a rewarding experience, I decided to bring this wonderful series back again for another year. One of my childhood idols, a horror film icon, found me this way, and I almost feel like I have to make him and Wes very proud this year. Expect a big celebration!
Music is a subject you’ve gazed upon quite often here on CardCastles. What you may not know is, I have a background in it and I work with it from time to time.
Last week, a friend of mine suggested I lend my hand in some collaborative project where I’d get to play around with sound once again. I was ecstatic. As I laid out the audio plans, I was inspired. There was a loop playing in my head of a melodic lullaby. The soothing tune that floated through my mind started to paint an image as well. Those of you that know my art well, know I see pictures in everything. Sometimes I’m fortunate enough to bring those mental images to life. Drift away with me, will you?
Perspective is a gift some of us share more easily in writing rather than art. It’s rare I get to show you two different versions of a piece – so allow me to dazzle you with your own point of view. If you analyze both of these renders closely, you’ll see so many differences in the tones and colors of each.

Ultimately, I chose the blue for this week’s post because it fit the feel and mood of a theme I’m trying to capture this month. Which do you like better? Why?
Sometimes there are just some aspects of life that are beyond our control. Take the weather for example. It’s been raining here non-stop and I can still hear it’s pitter-patter on the ground outside as I type. The sound is strangely calming. It’s looking like the next few days will consist of movie marathons, artwork with our son, and other indoor activities. I’m not at all agitated. In fact, I like the rain. It nourishes everything around us. I just find it funny that the April showers are a little early this year, seeing as March still has a few more days left before it comes to a close.
This is my take on my dear friend Kozo’s Monthly Peace Challenge:Peace Child. I wanted to create art that evoked peace in the eyes of not just adults, but children as well. Aside from my writing, some of you may know I design art for homes/lifestyle. One of those parts of the home I specialize in are children’s rooms and nurseries. So, I give you “Peace Child”, inspired by my dear friend and all of my fellow Bloggers for Peace.
