The title for this artwork was inspired by something my son said. He continues to make me laugh every day. I am still so grateful for that. This doubles as a wall art & greeting card design.
Hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday. I’ve been busy and not well but I’ll continue to share artwork here during #SleepySundays to the best of my ability. Enjoy this one for now as a token of my appreciation for your ongoing support of this place. Some of you truly are blessed beings. ♥
It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a request from someone I know personally. This weekend a good friend of mine sent me a text that said “make me…something pleasant” and went into some short detail.
Although the request was simple, it made my heart warm to think this friend thought of me when she was going through a very rough time. So I dreamt up this image while experiencing this arctic freeze a good portion of my country is going through right now. I couldn’t help but think of the poor little creatures outside that are trying to endure these harsh conditions. They go through these blistering conditions with such grace. The thought had me pondering about nature itself and how it does much the same—with grace. Then it came to me, the beautiful swan. If ever there was a graceful being, oh you had better believe, that’s it. Yes, I think that’s something pleasant.
What is “something pleasant” to you? Do you like swans?
Have a graceful Sunday!
Fun facts: This piece is not only the first entry to the gallery of 2018, but also the first print to enter Snapping Turtle’s archive since the beginning of the merge with CardCastles. This is all part of something bigger you will begin to see this year.
If there’s one theme that’s been consistent diving into this new year it’s been that my friends continue to be my largest support system. One of my closest friends and I were sending texts back and forth while I set up the next few months worth of designs. I’ve got some very large projects launching, releasing, and being revealed collectively soon. He proceeded to push me every step of the way & kept encouraging me that my artwork is worthy of great heights.
In rough and trying times, along with the general busy chaos that is my generation’s adult lives I’m so damn grateful to have friends like that who grab me by the shoulders and say “You’re doing a great job! So frigin’ relax!”
You are my lifeline, friends. Keep inspiring people with your ability to love.
Over this weekend I had the unique opportunity to finally catch up with some friends. Being buried under some snow helped get some projects nearer to completion.
The common theme that seemed to ring through every single conversation was one of hope. We all feel it. In this industry I get to work with a lot of different walks of life. Some of us are artists. Others are musicians. Some are actors, authors, and bloggers. You catch my drift. We are a colorful bunch.
These friends have been telling me in different forms they sense this is going to be a tremendous year for the arts. That thought in itself brings me some hope for this year.
This next little design was inspired by the thought that life can come in so many infinite forms. I’ll be using it for an upcoming project.
I’m not buying into the hidden agendas of those who say we have become a nation divided. Somehow, in some cases, that warped thinking has them believing things are better that way. I’ve heard it both whispered and shouted.
Yet my groups of friends are as diverse as NY and NJ when my family first came to this country not but two generations ago. I consider my friends my extended family and I always have. We sit together, all from different backgrounds and cultures and yet we love each other, and share so much in common.
I guess what I’m trying to relay is, going into this new year, we must remember the past but we must also move forward if we want anything to change.
Otherwise, if we don’t ALL work towards loving one another then evil starts to grow.
It takes over.
Like a virus in the air spreading and spreading amidst the wind and latching on to your insides.
I know our world and humanity itself is better than that. I know there is true noble beings and real good amongst us. Some of you reading this right now are fighting for good and I am in awe of everything ahead of us. There is a brand new time on the horizon. We have a great opportunity here with this new year. Let’s put all this negativity behind us and start anew, keep an open mind, and spread love through all that we do.
