31 Nightmares 2018: The 14th

Visit in the Night

Every year around this time I often do horror and sci-fi designs not only for clients and friends but also for myself and my own family. This one is likely going to be a wall design. It was based on an old dream about alien life and a night they visited the area.

Obscure Horror

Last year, there were a few sleeper mentions I later got questions about. At least once during our madness here we like to mention something most people may not have heard of.

One of my favorites out of those is indeed The Watcher in the Woods.
This is an old one but it is so worth digging for if you can find it. The story is surrealistic almost to a point of science fiction if it weren’t for the heavy horror undertones.

There is no blood or gore in this movie. Every element of horror is purely psychological, and done very well, might I add. Bette Davis is a sort of surprise character and she is fantastic.

Everything about this story sets the tone for all of the atmospheric visuals you’ll see throughout.

If you can unearth this movie somehow (as it can be extremely hard to find) I highly recommend watching this version.

…and we are just getting warmed up!

31 Nightmares 2017: The 29th

There were strange sights I saw as a child while on a trip with family members. For years those strange thoughts from that night as a child combined with my imagination, have crept into my nightmares and later, my designs. This is one of them. I’ve decided to make it into a horror/sci-fi crossover for my fall collection. This will be a template for wall art and fits TV screens as well.

Embers

The early concept pictured above was from a series of nightmares about pretty much hell on earth. There was fire raining down from the skies. This is what I imagine a zoomed out view to be.

The Void

This year during my work with DJ Matticus & Revis Edgewater I’ve gotten a new perspective on elliptical designs and spheres of all sorts, it’s no wonder I started dreaming of black holes. Our work together on sci-fi and fantasy novels this year also ended up in this year’s #31Nightmares, as one of my concept sketches that was an early design for an upcoming fantasy novel, was also something I dreamt about, an endless void, an imploded star, a strange region in space. It was beautiful but terrifying in my nightmares.
