31 Nightmares 2017: The 31st

Well, horror lovers,

We’ve reached another end to our nightmares. Will they be back again? We’ll just have to wait and see. We’ve had some hurdles but it’s all been worth it.

Enjoy this short video message as a token of my appreciation.

Special Thanks

First and foremost we would like to thank our very supportive family members that helped make some of this possible. To our friends, thank you for rooting for this event even when our hearts weren’t in it at certain points this year.

To the horror lovers:

None of this would be possible without you!! You clammered for this event’s return until we gave in.

To our Twitter Family and #TWDFamily members – we appreciate your overwhelming kindness & interaction with us. You’ve helped drive some horror fans our way and we are forever grateful to all of you for that!!

To our guests Michael Patrick and Bill Friday – We thank you for your courage to share and your wonderful contributions to the event this year.

To our mentors, your advice has been priceless at times when we desperately needed it.

31 Nightmares 2017: The 2nd

Zombies have been such a massive force in our pop culture over the last thirty years or so, we see them everywhere. Everything from our favorite video games and television shows, to movies, merchandise, and more, has been given the zombie treatment.

There is a man that can largely be credited with setting up this genre and creating a new lane for it. That man is none other than Mr. George A. Romero, and sadly we lost him earlier this July. Although that loss has surely been felt, Mr. Romero’s impact on the horror genre is undeniable, and isn’t going anywhere.

My “Farmhouse” piece was inspired by George A. Romero’s, Night of the Living Dead

With hit shows like The Walking Dead now running mainstream entertainment that has been made loud and clear. There are countless games, most notably, Resident Evil,  along with more current like Minecraft, and Killing Floor, that have all touched on the now vastly popular sub-genre.

I don’t see this genre fading despite seeing some complaints over the years that it’s been overdone. Not when there are still new creations that keep pumping on out and continue to do well.

Some of the screenshots used in this installment of 31Nightmares feature zombies in the game Minecraft. This game is still going strong well into 2017.

This week we’ll be touching on many other Master’s of Horror and their influences.

~Dedicated to George A. Romero~

You will be greatly missed.

We will make you proud.

This has been Day 2 of

31 Nightmares 2017: The 1st

A message from Daydreams:

Before you know it October is here. CardCastles has morphed and changed a lot in the last five years. What was once just my little wonderland come-to-life is now a team, a community, and a growing company’s merge. You will see some of those changes in the near future, but for now on this glorious fall first day of October, let’s kick off this celebratory tradition.

I am proud to say this is the third year of #31Nightmares. This is solely due to reader demand. We get messages year ‘round now looking forward to this event so we aim to dream up each year better than the last.

This year we will be talking about horror in video games, movies, television, and its influence on some music. We will also be exploring horror in sound, both in special effects, and soundtracks. There will be art, there will be writing. There will be tributes to many we lost in recent years that helped pave the way and even create new lanes for this genre.

We are glad to be doing it all with you for another year this 2017 and we hope you will stick around for all 31 days/nights.

Welcome to 31Nightmares 2017!

Introduction

For those of you new to the site or just plain new to this series,

here’s a little about how it got its start.

~>Dare to Dream.

This week during our opener, we will be diving into recent creations in the horror genre that have been stirring buzz in both video games and television.

One game this year that has stood out to us during my work with many different levels and mediums of the genre was The Evil Within 2.

We own the first installment in our collection here at home. My other half has beaten it to shreds. I’ve yet to go far in the campaign myself due to a busy schedule this year, but I certainly liked what I saw so far. This sequel looks promising and I have to admit I thought it was a genius marketing idea to drop the game on Friday the 13th this year in October. The bits of imagery in the story trailer featured below could remind you of something straight out of your nightmares.
