Sleepy Sundays: Beside the Forest Path

With all that’s been going on lately, my dreams have been more vivid than ever. So I revoked the power of an old tradition between my grandfather & I & started noting a dream journal of sorts again. In a recent dream journey, a woman told me “Beyond the forest path, there lies another world.” So that was the inspiration behind this title & that is exactly the direction I followed.

Have a dreamy Sunday

I’ve been messing around with tiles again this weekend for the upcoming summer season. The focus for this time of year seems to be a lot of florals and underwater or beach designs. There has been some talks of future projects on a much larger scale, but my physical health still isn’t quite cooperating. One day I feel somewhat back where I was before this all began, other days, I feel like I’m inches from death.

It’s been a rough week to say the least. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this particular design yet, unless someone requests it. If they do I’ll come back, make improvements, and clean this up a bit more. For now I’m just trying to take it easy until I can get back on the road to optimal health. If there’s one thing I’ve learned going through this, it’s that people abandon you when you’re sick and you find out who your true friends are.

I’m still in good spirits, though. I owe that to the wonderful people that still are in my life. They’ve opened doors to many new possibilities. All I have to do now is walk through them. After years of getting my foot slammed in those doors, it’s a welcome change.

There’s an unmistakably strong sense of things turning upward for the first time in aeons.

Can’t be mad at that.

Sleepy Sundays: April Showers

This weekend I’m adding to the new gallery with something old and a few much newer creations. The photos are from the early and mid 90s, and most of the artwork is from this year. They are proving to be great additions for the spring season and this holiday weekend around this region.

Feel free to take a browse as I continue to move new and older items from Snapping Turtle over to here at its new home at CardCastles in the clouds. 🙂

Have a relaxing Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Golden Sunrises

This weekend I’m adding three additions to the new Snapping Turtle gallery that’s slowly moving here to CardCastles. So I guess you can say we’re getting three designs for the price of one, though I have a feeling I may use this design as a template for even newer designs down the road.

Have you ever stumbled upon something that had a multi-purpose?

Have a golden Sunday!

If I gave you a peek into my folder right now, you’d see lots of designs like this one. I’ve been working a lot on greeting card designs again lately. This one is the first concept in a set of florals.

It’s inspired by the rainy season in my zone lately and some strange dreams.

What’s your inspiration lately? Any plans when the seasons change?

Have a relaxing Sunday!

If you’ve been reading here a while then you know I lost my mother back in 2005 to a nasty combo of lupus-related complications and hospital negligence. She was my favorite person in the whole wide world and I still miss her to this very day.

One of my nieces is having a birthday party later today and I’m getting everything ready for the occasion as we speak. (I stopped here to chat with you all, of course. Since I’ve missed some of you too—terribly.) Whenever I get to doing “girly” things my mother tends to pop on my mind. Random things can remind me of her at any moment. Such is part of love and loss, I guess. So as I sat to practice my landscape designs for upcoming work, this one came out of me. It is based off of a day where my mother spontaneously grabbed my hand and started darting with me up this hill by our old apartment.

She often did wild & crazy things out of nowhere at the drop of a hat just because it “felt right” or whatever lit her fire on this day or that day. Just before she whipped me up that hill (It was a blast. I was a little kid and nothing could have been more fun than running through a field up a hill & then rolling back down.) she whispered in my ear, “Let’s go!”

Do you have a memory that just seems to stick in your head no matter what?

Have a spontaneous Sunday!

Fun fact: This is yet another artwork where I used the “ghost image” technique discussed in Sleepy Sundays: Ghost.

This design almost didn’t happen but I usually do something in tribute to my father sometimes near Father’s Day each year. It’s almost become tradition here at CardCastles. He did, after all inspire the name Snapping Turtle, my design company & sort of production hub for the last year & a half or so.

I couldn’t help but think of all of the daughters and sons that may have lost their fathers in recent years or over the years these past few days. This design inspired by my late father is dedicated today to all of them.
