31 Nightmares 2017: The 9th

This week we’ll be grazing over all things “Behind the Scenes” within the horror genre.

Surely the blood and bones of this genre is the people whose names you rarely hear. The set people, the crews, the special effects teams, the concept artists (wink), the stunt departments, the writers, and sometimes even the people behind the camera, barely get recognition at all.

These are just some of the many overlooked.

With that said,

I’d like to dedicate this week to

John Bernecker

and all those that worked with him.

Day 9 (Week 2) Intro

One of the reasons I love following Greg Nicotero on social media (aside from the fact that I’ve been a nerdy fan of his since forever, and he was a friend to the man behind the reason this 31Nightmares thing got started) is he posts a lot of really interesting behind the scenes treasures from the movies and TV he’s worked on.

One of the coolest bits of all that this year (for me) was this:

Mr. Nicotero went into detail about all the wonderfully talented people it took to bring this zombie concept to life. & Might I say, what a freakishly gorgeous sight it is!

31 Nightmares 2017: The 4th

We started on a more somber note. It’s been a somber year, in more than just the genre. We’ve had a lot of losses. There is, however, an up-swing in all this.

The IT remake broke records, and surely raked in some big bucks for Mr. Stephen King. Horror is hitting another wave of creativity right now. The proof is in the lineups, and the projects slated to release in the next few months.

We are a force to be reckoned with, and the mainstream knows it.

We will continue to highlight those working within the genre this week, but I was told by someone close to me, you may want to hear from me as well.

I do, after all, work in this genre from time to time and it has been considered my specialty.

My best advice to someone looking to get into this industry on more full-time terms is simply to “take the leap.”

Trust yourself.

Work as hard as you possibly can toward your goals.

Don’t take in or entertain negativity.

And most importantly, a gem from one of my mentors:

Don’t burn your bridges.

Fun fact: This banner is one of a set designed specifically for #31Nightmares. Each one is a tribute or reference to a classic or iconic horror film.

Author’s Notes: Tomorrow we begin our tradition of artworks inspired by nightmares in loving memory of Mr. Wes Craven.
