Sleepy Sundays: Gumdrop Birds

After talking it over with a few of those nearest & dearest to me, I plan on using this concept as a base-work for future endeavors. The neat detail about it is, the original is a transparent mask, so I can place that little branch with our feathered friends on it just about anywhere.

What do you think we should use it for? The possibilities are endless.

Have a peaceful Sunday!

This week ended with something that completely stopped time for me for a short while.

My phone rang out as I was getting out of the shower in a rush and it one of those phone calls that kind of makes you go deaf for a second when you first receive the news.

It was my sister on the other end. There had been problems in her relationship for a while now.

The phone call itself was no surprise to me but it’s results somehow still were despite their similarities to times passed. This rang especially true since this all involves my niece who is a product of this rocky relationship, and my blood nonetheless, despite difficult circumstances both my sister and I are now facing as a direct result of said rockiness.

She managed to find herself an attorney in all this mess. Just like my mother would have. This greeting card/wall art design was inspired by an early concept of characters I’m designing for my sister’s daughter, my niece. & They will later go on to be used as prints for others nieces and daughters and sisters, and mothers.

It’s been a while since we shared some music here.

Why not the perfect time. Sunday morning.

Have a peaceful Sunday. Take care of each other.

Our apologies for the recent closings.

We are still Clearing Out the Clouds to make space for Snapping Turtle.

The shift is nearing completion. I look forward to much more with you all this fall. Stay tuned!

Sleepy Sundays: Skyway to Summer

Skyway to Summer

This weekend our family had some much-needed time away relaxing and catching up with family. It was so renewing just to see some friendly faces and chat it up with those I love and haven’t seen in a while. If ever there was a perfect day for an outdoor gathering, this weekend managed to crank out a few.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s company , the wanderer in me couldn’t help but sneak away for a quick stroll down the block. I was dazzled by what almost summer had to offer down this quiet little street. Hues of deep pinks and oranges, and yellows, all dotted the area. Down one particular intersection, a line of trees sat that seemed to go on for days.

The whole time was like one big rejuvenation of the mind, body, and soul. There’s no doubt that my family and nature itself found its way into my designs this week because of this.

What replenishes you?

Have a peaceful Sunday!

Mothers are very often the start or beginning of something in a family. There’s been some new additions to mine in the past few weeks. Common conversation has been how much both of these new little family members resemble other family members, one being my late mother.

I’ve been grateful for the little pieces given back somehow in this strange trip we call life. They inspired this work.

To the mothers out there:

Happy Mother’s Day!

Sleepy Sundays: Beacon

This weekend in between jobs I had a series of fantastic, otherworldly dreams that all ended up in my artwork. I’m still quite busy until February but thank you all for the kind messages and well wishes through social media. So many of you friends are my little beacons of hope, much like this surreal piece represented in my strange dreams.

What are your “beacons of hope”?

Have a bright Sunday!

31 Nightmares 2016: The 24th

Mad House
Mad House

This creepy lady has a few different origins. The first is a nightmare where the entire space surrounding me was nothing but a series of doors.

Picture this:

behind each door; a hideous creature.

No escape in sight—just simply you and a growing madness.

The second source of inspiration was a series of old sketches I made long ago of a bizarre, ghost-like sea hag.

The Tree Man
The Tree Man

The Tree Man was a haunting figure from the depths of my dreams.

He was a guardian of sorts and not necessarily an evil creature. It spoke in a stern voice and told tales of the area. In my original concept sketch, he had thorns.

Happy Haunts!
