Some of you know a few months back I was in the hospital with some serious issues to contend with. My body was fighting with toxicity and trying to heal around the same time. As you could imagine, this made a few of those nights that followed full of bad dreams.
This is one of the faces spotted in those other realms of my nightmares. I later made it into a character sketch. From there, the mysterious face later became one of my early concepts for a character design. If any of my game/film industry people are reading, I think he might make a great monster of sorts for one of your stories. 🙂
Have you ever seen a jellyfish in its natural habitat? Ever been stung by one? (I hear it’s quite painful.)
Many moons ago, when I was just a teensy little daydreamer, there came the realization that I was very much drawn to the water. The ocean has always been a place where I find a deep calm and a strange sense of belonging. Maybe it’s the fact that my zodiac is a water sign. Perhaps, it has something to do with a past life. Whatever the case may be, I’m still fascinated by all of its mystery to this day.
This artwork was inspired by a day at the beach where I scooped up a jellyfish in my hands just to get a closer look at the details. I was careful to keep the intruiging little friend still submerged in the water. Surprisingly, I was not stung. Seconds later though, my cousin, however, was—right in the butt.
What kinds of creatures have you met at the beach?
Have a relaxing Sunday, loves! Some exciting things coming up!
This Sunday as we crept back into our old timeslot,
I decided it best to share two designs with you this weekend instead of just one.
There’s good reason behind it, as I am working on a summer collection.
Hope you are all having a relaxing weekend. From our hearts to yours.
I’ve been messing around with tiles again this weekend for the upcoming summer season. The focus for this time of year seems to be a lot of florals and underwater or beach designs. There has been some talks of future projects on a much larger scale, but my physical health still isn’t quite cooperating. One day I feel somewhat back where I was before this all began, other days, I feel like I’m inches from death.
It’s been a rough week to say the least. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep this particular design yet, unless someone requests it. If they do I’ll come back, make improvements, and clean this up a bit more. For now I’m just trying to take it easy until I can get back on the road to optimal health. If there’s one thing I’ve learned going through this, it’s that people abandon you when you’re sick and you find out who your true friends are.
I’m still in good spirits, though. I owe that to the wonderful people that still are in my life. They’ve opened doors to many new possibilities. All I have to do now is walk through them. After years of getting my foot slammed in those doors, it’s a welcome change.
There’s an unmistakably strong sense of things turning upward for the first time in aeons.
The new beginning for Snapping Turtle now has its home cozy here at CardCastles. We are adding to the gallery with both old & new designs as fast as we can. With a lot going on in our personal life, some of these newer designs have been a welcome break. This concept is planned for greeting cards and children’s wall art for kid’s rooms and possibly even classrooms, we’ll see depending on who bites. 🙂
This Mother’s Day weekend we’re sharing two designs I was able to squeeze in instead of the usual one. They both have neat stories attached. The first above with our little underwater friends was inspired by my own mother and my sister and a day we spent down by the beach. They are the early phase of more greeting designs and wall art of their nature.
The second piece was inspired by a musician we’ve followed for years in our family. This weekend she asked on her Twitter page, what is your favorite Bob Marley song and it sparked up a conversation here at home. There are so many, but as I replied, Three Little Birds has a special meaning to me. & It also was the thought behind this piece, along with some fond memories.
Do you have a favorite musician that you share with someone close?
There hasn’t been a piece this abstract in my folders for quite some time. Yes, I dive into the surreal quite often, but this one is different. I’m actually planning on saving this one for a client as a basis for future endeavors in the sci-fi genre.
What makes it so unique to my collections though is the inspiration. The other night I had a very strange, and wildly interesting dream. Observing my surroundings, it appeared I was in some other space and time completely. The entire experience was astounding really. I woke up in awe trying to analyze everything before life slapped me back into reality.
Maybe it’s the process of moving driving me mildly insane. Or just may-be…something else.
We will be relocating our operations here as far as artwork. The office will be moving and you may have noticed I am redesigning the website to match our new digs. We’re hoping you all find it cozy still once it’s all said and done.
This weekend I’ve designed a few more nature-inspired pieces to be added to the new gallery. This is the first of that set.
Is anything in your life moving on/moving out or taking “flight”?
