Today is an odd day for me. For the past 14 years, I’ve had to deal with this day not only being the anniversary of my mother’s death, but her birthday as well.

When I want to celebrate her life & keep her memory going, that sudden sadness still tends to creep its way in. Understanding a lot of the roller coaster that is losing someone that close to you, I’ve been able to help others over the years.

For those of you that ask but rarely get an answer:

This is how I deal.

This has always been how I deal, cope, whatever you’d like to call it. Art is a therapeutic tool for me as much as it is a passion. Though, if you’ve been following here a while, you probably already know that.

I’ve got so much more to vent, but not here. We’ll save that for another Daydreams Diary.

Just know I care a lot about so many of you.

This one is for my Mom. 14 years and I still miss her like it was yesterday.

Happy Birthday, Mom.

If you ever read I’ll Light a Candle for You, then you’d know today is both my mother’s birthday and the anniversary of her death. It’s been eleven years, and yet the wound can still feel raw on days like this for my remaining family members.

We miss her. Her absence left me with a hole in my life, one I’ve tried to mend with Paper, Paint, and Stitches.

So I made this today, for her. Since childhood, art has always been a cathartic release for me. So we’ll play her songs. We’ll post her pictures. Hopefully, somehow, we’ll all get through the day.

It’s been eleven years.

Happy Birthday, Mom.

We will always love you.

If you follow CardCastles on social media, you may know it’s my birthday today.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect for me to roll out a series of greeting cards/stationery concept I’ve been working on. I call it:

The Hallow’s Eve Divas® series

I plan on adding more characters to it before the season ends. I’m gearing towards making my designs available for purchase again some time soon. Only time will tell what the future holds…

Thank you all for making this an amazing year. There have certainly been some ups and downs, but some truly remarkable things have taken place behind the scenes as well. You are seeing some of the effects all over the place. I promise it will only get better.

Thanks for riding with CardCastles for three beauteous years! & Thank you for your loving responses outside of the site about #31Nightmares so far. Your voices matter so much. You have truly made some magical dreams become reality.

I hope you enjoy these new characters. They will be added to my gallery shortly.

Happy Haunts!

We Could Be Heroes

Today is my son’s birthday. In just a short while he’ll awaken and care about nothing more than presents, balloons, and party time. After all, he is a kid.

My son doesn’t yet understand how profoundly he’s effected all of our lives for the better. I’ve spoken many times on the subject both here and elsewhere. He still manages to shock me with his complex understanding everyday.

The little one and I often joke and talk about what we’d be like as superheroes. They are, after all, his favorite thing on the planet for quite some time now.

He once told me I reminded him of this awesome chick  one particular super-human-lady named Opal:

Opal is coincidentally my birthstone. The character herself is a “fusion” of two different people.

As the munchkin sleeps, and I sit here and prepare and organize, he still managed to get my wheels turning once again.

We are all capable of super-human feats. My son is a shining example of that himself. He has overcome odds stacked against him time and time again. Come to think of it, so have I. So have all of us. In a world full of so much ugliness, day in, day out, sometimes it takes super-human strength just to make it through.

I’ve seen powers in all of you when you change things for the better. When you organize a charity, brave through sharing a difficult story, help someone learn to read, and most of all, when you heal a broken heart.

Being a mother to this beautiful child has granted me a new perspective on life.

Happy Birthday, munchkin.
