Sleepy Sundays: Sun-baked Violets

Tomorrow is my mother’s birthday. It’s been so many years since she’s gone now. Yet, she never fails to enter my mind with a memory or make me laugh from one. I was speaking to a cousin of mine recently that feels just the same about her. We both wish she was still here with us to laugh. We miss her.

Whenever I decide to do a little tribute piece for her, purple hues often find their way in as they were here favorite. There’s a tendency that I also stick some sort of flowers in there as well since they remind me of her.

Have a peaceful Sunday

Sleepy Sundays: A Glow in Your Eyes

A Glow in Your Eyes ©️ 2019 Snapping Turtle Arts | cardcastlesinthesky.com

This weekend we are both happy and grateful since our son is finished with his school year. He has made so much progress and completed so many of his goals this year. He is an inspiration to us sometimes just as much as our family is to him.

Despite our hardships, I am grateful we can continue this business & I can keep designing. I love this little family we created and the larger ones outside of this one, and of course the one I came from.

This design is a background for future projects, but for now I’m still adding it to the gallery as wall art.

Have a serene Sunday ❤️

Sundays lately have been a rest time for my family, but I still feel a draw to my work. So I’ve been working on some background sets in my spare time. This is one of those sets from a surreal series. I like the color palette for this one & may use it for another.

Have a colorful Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Beside the Forest Path

With all that’s been going on lately, my dreams have been more vivid than ever. So I revoked the power of an old tradition between my grandfather & I & started noting a dream journal of sorts again. In a recent dream journey, a woman told me “Beyond the forest path, there lies another world.” So that was the inspiration behind this title & that is exactly the direction I followed.

Have a dreamy Sunday

Sleepy Sundays: Scales

Scales

Burnt Lilac Sunset

Each week of our life lately has seemed like a series of tests. It’s been happening to everyone in my family.

In my designs, I’ve been working on different palette scales for backgrounds, for later projects.
Synchronicity is a strange & beautiful thing.

Have a pleasant Sunday

Sometimes I make backgrounds for websites and actual tiles and handbags, quilts and things like that when my designs are printed out in various formats. It’s one of the ways I am able to make somewhat of a living off of my art. This tile has a transparent background so I can play with the foreground and make it into day or night variations and add things like stars, etc.

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend!

We are very busy in the clouds!

31 Nightmares: The 31st

31 Nightmares

Well, it’s strange that we got here so fast, but I loved every minute of this ride with you.

Today is the final nightmare of the

31 Nightmares

and I’d like to kick it off with a little something special:

Intro

With all that’s discussed in there (and I hope you view it, because it’s not easy for me to be the one on this side of the lens. I can be a pretty shy and private person. So you know if I’m getting up here and speaking about something it’s for a specific reason.)

I want to keep horror living on. Right now, it’s not one of the most popular written-about or searched topics on the internet. I’d like to change that. I’d discuss with some of my friends here how there wasn’t much horror written about amongst bloggers either, and there’s quite a bit of fiction out there.

People like me that have worked within this genre most of their lives don’t want to see it merely fade off and die. We don’t want to see it replaced by some big budget bang box office BS that’s barren-dry of content and just aimed solely at making money. You’ve heard me speak about this here many times before, like in Why Greed Breeds Bad Writing.

Wes was someone who revived this genre again and again. He was a true writer at his core, even before a director, but he was magnificent at both. He had a heavy hand and mind in special effects and how they worked. His genius is going to be sorely, achingly missed by so many.

I only hope we can carry on his legacy. Those of us that create and write and film; we need to do it. Now is the time. Those of us that love this genre and don’t want to see it die off only to be replaced by watered down nonsense leakage; we need to act now.

That is why I’ve shared my most intimate nightmares with you.

That is why I’m sharing something even more intimate with you—a chat. A little piece, albeit imperfect, a tiny sliver of my world.

I’d like to thank everyone that read, participated, commented, liked, shared on here and on social media. Special thanks to my guests, the very talented KilledByKangaroo, and [7/9/2017 : other former guest author name & content removed for violation of CardCastles Terms]

I give you…

My final nightmare.

…and (of course) there’s a story behind this one too, but I’ll leave that one up to you.

Happy Haunts!
Thank you for joining me during this event, for all of your support both inside and outside of CardCastles, and for being such a wonderful group of people that I am thankful I get to share some of the largest inspirations behind my work with.

Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
