Sleepy Sundays: Harvest Time

Harvest Time © 2018 Snapping Turtle Arts | cardcastlesinthesky.com

This time of year usually brings in a lot of autumn design requests. This year has been no different. Although my schedule has changed a little, and I’m still in a healing process, I look forward to doing these designs each year as they’ve become sort of a fun tradition. Keep sending in those greeting card requests as well because I love doing prints for as long as I can until my schedule fills up. 🙂

Have a relaxing Sunday!

31 Nightmares 2018: The 18th

There is a very soft spot in my heart for this next installment to our 31 Nightmares.

Over the Garden Wall is a family-friendly fascet of the horror genre, with drips of mystery & dark fantasy sprinkled in. Ever since its premiere, the miniseries has been a treasured fall season tradition in our home.

I was lucky enough a few years ago to get a physical copy on DVD to what I consider to be a storytelling masterpiece.

The visuals and sort of retro feel to the entire thing stir up some sort of nostalgic emotions in me. I’m not sure why, but every time we get ready to sit down and watch it this time of year and that gorgeous piano theme starts up, my eyes start to well up a bit. Maybe it’s the fact that it reminds me of pieces of my own childhood. Maybe it’s the adorable characters. Maybe, just maybe, it’s the fact that my son loves it as much as I do.

Whatever the case is, it is definitely worth seeking out.

Oh yes, and my son wants you all to know this is our favorite song from the series:

(We still sing & dance along to it to this day.)

Sleepy Sundays: Northern Lights

Sometimes I make backgrounds for websites and actual tiles and handbags, quilts and things like that when my designs are printed out in various formats. It’s one of the ways I am able to make somewhat of a living off of my art. This tile has a transparent background so I can play with the foreground and make it into day or night variations and add things like stars, etc.

Hope you all had a relaxing weekend!

We are very busy in the clouds!

Day 12

of

Sleepy Sundays: Worth

Sometimes something that is normally complex strips away all of its beautiful edges and becomes simpler. Sometimes, this is necessary. Sometimes it’s survival.

…Sometimes.

It’s usually not permanent. After all, most of the time we need all the glitter and jazz, right? Right?

RIGHT?

No.

And that translates to art as well.

Sometimes I strip down my designs and make them much simpler. It’s usually for time constraints but sometimes—it’s just because. You’d be surprised how that translates to sales and demand. Some would think a more “naked” design pales in comparison to something all dolled up. When it comes to what people like and go for, it simply isn’t true. People like both and numbers fluctuate. I guess it’s all just a matter of perspective.

How was your weekend? Everyone holding it together?

Have a breezy Sunday

31 Nightmares 2018: The 1st

It’s been three years now since we first began this series. Now, becoming a sort of tradition backed by horror-loving demand,

31 Nightmares

has returned.

When we first started this madness in 2015, we did so in tribute to man whose life has touched so many in their respective fields. That man is Mr. Wes Craven, and you can read about how this series got its start here. Since then, it has grown into much more—a gathering of us horror heads, if you will.

For now, my Snapping Turtle family would simply like to welcome you here. Don’t forget! CardCastles Terms apply here during this event as well as across all social media accounts. We’ve got some guests coming up while we waltz through each day and night. Please be kind. We don’t want to have to feed you to our guards.

Love,

Daydreams

If you are into the world of special effects like we are here at home, there is someone I highly recommend following that we haven’t mentioned before.

His name is Kevin Yagher

and his Instagram account can be found below.

https://www.instagram.com/yagherfx/

I had already been familiar with Kevin’s work from hearing his name floated around horror circles. What I didn’t know was the sheer number of things Mr. Yagher has worked on. If you do a little digging, you’ll find out this man’s trail of past work is seriously impressive.

One of the highlights worth mentioning is recently Kevin started selling some of his work as well:

How cool is that?

Sleepy Sundays: Candy Leaf Sunsets

Fall always comes into my designs somehow this time of year. This past week some scenes I discovered locally crept into my custom artwork once again.

Have you seen any sights yet this fall?

Have a beautiful Sunday!

Sleepy Sundays: Crimson Waves

There’s been a lot of talk these past few weeks about “peak colors” for fall foliage in my region here on this east coast section of the clouds. Some say this time for the greatest variety and most gorgeous hue is around October, but it largely depends on the temperatures of the season. This new wall art/greetings combo tile was designed with that time in mind. There are trees around here that turn this bright, candy apple red when the conditions are just right. Many of these sights usually make it into my designs each autumn season. This year is no different.

Do you enjoy the fall season? We sure do!

Daydreams Diary: I’ve Been Waiting…

It’s been a while since I sat down to catch up with you.

There’s a reason for that.

In the recent words of someone I’ve always admired, actress Uma Thurman,

“I’ve been waiting to feel less angry.”

I’ve got a flurry of these Daydreams Diaries coming up this season perhaps making up for it.

With all of the events going on in the world, I felt the sudden urge to re-post my own #MeToo story,

The Girl That Didn’t Cry Wolf

Shared exclusively a few years ago at Stories That Must Not Die.

I think it’s important to highlight this happens to very young girls too. & We need to protect and educate our children.

Love Always,
Daydreams
